Kogelberg Nature Reserve has an exceptional diversity and quality of fynbos and is considered the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. So as you can imagine, staying in one of their Oudebosch eco cabins surrounded by all of this natural beauty is an absolute treat. There are only five cabins which helps keep it exclusive and peaceful. These self-catering cabins are all beautifully designed, built with wood and stone and totally in keeping with their surroundings. The interiors are modern, comfortable and inviting… quite a surprise to their more rustic exterior.
The cabins have a lovely open-plan kitchen and living area that open up onto an outdoor deck and courtyard with a braai. I enjoyed the flow of our cabin as well as the views of the breath-taking mountains all around and fynbos on our doorstep. There is a small communal eco-pool which is so welcoming after a hike or bike ride in the reserve and of course you can also walk down to the Palmiet River which is fantastic to swim in.
I always enjoy staying at any of the CapeNature reserves but I think Kogelberg has set a new precedent! Kogelberg is a World Heritage Site so it’s well worth visiting even if it’s just for a day trip.
