As we quickly discovered on our weekend away, there is a fabulous selection of wine estates, eateries and restaurants in and around McGregor. Here are a few you need to check out…
Tanagra Wine & Guestfarm is situated just outside McGregor. They produce some excellent wines as well as Grappa and Eau de Vie in their boutique distillery. Their farm is quite stunning with hiking and mountain bike trails on offer, I’m definitely keen to return and stay in one of their cottages.
Bubbly lovers will appreciate Bemind Wines a brand new wine cellar owned by Ilse Schutte. The lovely tasting room is right in the centre of McGregor so do pop in for a tasting.

Follow the dusty road out of McGregor towards the moutains and you’ll reach Lord’s Wines with its lovely views of the valley. Here we enjoyed a full wine tasting and the most delicious platters.
Tebaldi’s Restaurant is situated in the heart of McGregor surrounded by the beautiful gardens of Tenemos Retreat. A great spot for a coffee in the pretty patio or enjoy a delicious meal indoors in a cosy, country style setting.
The garden at Tenemos is absolutely beautiful with plenty of secret nooks to enjoy a quiet moment and reflect.
Green Gables Country Inn is a fabulous restaurant run by Jill Meyer offering hearty home cooked meals. They only open on certain nights of the week so do enquire and make a booking.
You’ll see the sign to Lords Guest House on your way towards McGregor. Perched on a hilltop with amazing views of the valley, this is quite a spot. They have a restaurant, chapel and accommodation in stone cottages with plenty of Scottish influences. We enjoyed a lovely lunch in their garden where we were entertained by The Next Step Dance Company.
Five talented young ladies are being trained by Mary Corpe who has more than 30 years of experience teaching dance to children. Their vision is to raise sufficient funds to enable the girls to reach their full potential, both in dance and academic field. The girls were fabulous, I always
Lat stop, for all the animal lovers, Eseltjiesrus donkey sanctuary is a must. The donkey sanctuary provides a safe, natural haven for neglected, elderly and abused donkeys to live out their lives. The team also guides rehabilitation of donkeys across the country and offers education for donkey owners.
You can enjoy a lovely light meal at their restaurant and take a guided tour and get to meet the various donkeys. This is obviously a great activity for kids.
As you can see there is so much to do and see in McGregor, a weekend away is certainly not enough time! Thanks to McGregor Country Getaways for arranging such a brilliant tour and for highlighting all of the village’s gems.
