Winter wardrobe: Minimal chic vs Weekend Military

Winter wardrobe: Minimal chic vs Weekend Military

minimal chic: get the look
Last week I got together with Julie from Off The Rails to get some winter wardrobe inspiration. I struggle with winter and tend to be really boring, wearing the same old things and not experimenting much at all! Julie’s put together two great outfits, showing us how to take a simple pair of jeggings and style them in two ways.

The first look Minimal Chic has a slightly androgynous feel with clean cut basics and no frills. Classic tailored pieces are key and a neutral colour palette. Stick to grey and black and add a statement bag.

Grey is the new black. Various shades of grey, from charcoal to ice, is definitely where it is all happening this season, especially seen in coats, knitwear and leggings. Remember if dressing in grey from head to toe make sure you add lots of texture to keep it from looking flat and dull.

If you don’t own one by now, you need to get your hands on a classic black handbag. Chose an investment piece which will wear well over time so that you don’t need to replace your bag every season.

The second look, Weekend Military, is more casual featuring khaki which is another trending colour for the season. The military connotations that come with khaki means the trend has a heavy dose of masculinity but it’s up to you how you play it. Pare it back with clean lines and add a white shirt to keep it fresh.

A white shirt is another obvious must-have as it can be worn in so many ways and you can create very different looks with just this one item.

Khaki also pairs well with navy blue and tan… change up your accessories and you have a whole new outfit.
