Earlier this week I popped into a creative new showroom where students and emerging designers can showcase and sell their products. An initiative of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s (CPUT) design department, Design Garage was born out of a need for students to test small-scale production and the retail value of their designs.
The light and airy industrial space features a variety of fashion, textiles, jewellery, graphics and industrial design products. The space is also available for exhibitions and Department of Coffee will setting up a coffee bar soon.
Most of the local curated design shops including The Watershed all have the same designers and brands on board which gets tiring quickly. It was refreshing to discover a new mix at Design Garage and hopefully their concept will continue to grow.
Design Garage will officially be up and running from the 1st of September. Monday to Friday, 8am till 4pm. Pop in and support our young designers!
