Recently Maggie of MagPie Photography and I took a wander around the Bo Kaap to do some exploring and find out what’s new. This historical area with its brightly coloured houses, eclectic charm and cobbled streets is probably one of the most photographed areas in our city. These are just a few highlights, enjoy our tour…
Brand new to the area is the trendy Bo-Op which you can’t miss with its primary colours and key position on the corner of Wale and Rose Street. This is home to ten of Cape Town’s fashion brands including quirky shoes from Grandt Mason Originals, beautiful clothing from Charlie H, Ballo sunglasses and more.
Deluxe Coffeeworks sits alongside the Bo-Op and on the other side you’ll find Detox juice bar.
On Wale Street you’ll find Rocksole which is the place to go in Cape Town for shoe repairs. Right next door is Monkeybiz which is an economic upliftment project dedicated to reviving the traditional craft of African beadwork. The Monkeybiz beaders create unique artworks and all profits from the sale of these pieces go back into the community. Their colourful, unique creations are quite amazing and make great gifts too. Be sure to pop upstairs and view some of the behind the scenes in their workshop.
Just around the corner along upper Buitengracht Street, you’ll find The New Modernist for retro designer furniture and Angles & Earth for all your terrarium needs.
I’ve been wanting to visit Batavia Café since it opened and so we popped in to escape the heat and for a quick refreshment. I loved the decor and interior but sadly the service was far from great.
