Last night I was lucky enough to experience One Star House Party and enjoying a fantastic one of a kind evening. The One Star House Party team is on a world wide mission to create 20 pop up restaurants in 20 countries and in 20 months! Quite a feat if you think about the logistics of setting up a restaurant in a country you don’t know, where you perhaps don’t speak the language and you certainly don’t know any suppliers. Cape Town is the 8th stop on their tour and countries still to come are Iceland, Italy, Germany, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Japan, UK, USA, Canada, Tasmania and China.
Their Cape Town pop up runs until the 11th of May and the venue is a Woodstock apartment that they’ve cleverly converted into a relaxed, down to earth dining space with eclectic touches.
The evening consists of 7 courses and each course is brought to you by one of the chefs who run you through the dish and its elements. I loved the open-plan kitchen and seeing the chefs effortlessly whip up all the dishes. The flavours are amazing and there were some unusual twists and combinations, which is to be expected since most of the chefs have worked in some of the world’s best restaurants including Noma and The Ledbury. Once you’ve made your booking you can request a vegetarian option or let them know if you have any food intolerances. I think part of the fun is not knowing what you’re going to be served and being willing to go down a sublime taste journey.
The ticket price is $85 which is around R1100 and you will need to bring your own alcohol or refreshments. There is only one seating per evening so you can expect a laid back, leisurely dining experience.

My dinner experience at One Star House Party was complimentary. As always, the opinions and thoughts shared are my own.
