Lei Lester Design
I’ve been photographing house tours for Apartment Therapy some time now and I love discovering and capturing these beautiful homes. Another highlight is getting to meet the owners who so far have all been an incredibly creative and inspiring bunch.

I met the lovely Lei Lester last year when I photographed her home (See the full tour here) and since then I’ve been following her online and so enjoying all of her creative ventures. Lei is a brand & retail consultant and an interior designer. Her website is full of visual eye candy, before and after projects, styling tips and one of a kind buys.

Lei has a great eye for colour and combining unusual elements. These are just a few details from some of her recent projects that appealed to me…

Cape Town, What's On

What’s on in March

March 1, 2017

OZCF harvest day
There’s so much happening in around Cape Town this weekend especially for all you music and wine lovers.

On Saturday, there’s the Love & Light Party at Nelson’s Wine Estate in Paarl and Diskotekah Vogue Afrika Alternative party at Deuce Bar. On Sunday you can chill out at De Waal park and enjoy Hotwater perform for free or head to Clifton 3rd beach for a Silent Sunset Party. Vergenoegd Wine Estate in Stellenbosch is launching their summer music concert series this Sunday and first up is Arno Carstens.

For the wine lovers, head to Paarl on Saturday and take part in the 10th OmmiBerg ‘Round the Rock’ festival where participating farms will host fun harvest activities for young and old to give visitors a glimpse into the magic of winemaking. White Wine on Tap Festival also takes place on Saturday at the Diemersfontein Estate in Wellington. Enjoy bottomless white wine, accompanied by live music in a perfect garden setting.

If you’re in the city today, why not head over to the Oranjezicht City Farm and pick your own harvest. This takes place on the first Wednesday of every month from 3pm till 6pm. Bring some secateurs or pair of scissors, an empty bag and a donation and happily pick your own organic veggies. If you can’t make it, then be sure to visit their market held at Granger Bay every Saturday morning.

Other news… if you’re in need of new bedding, then do hop over to Lala Linen. They are having a 50% off sale on their Egyptian Cotton bedding! They received an order which is not up to their standards, hence the crazy discount. One of readers sent me a note… “Thanks for the heads up! Just ordered & collected a set, ‘flaws’ hardly even noticeable”.

Brand new to Cape Town, is the Boffi Studio on Hudson Street, just opposite Loading Bay. I went to their opening launch yesterday and swooned over their impeccable Italian designs and fittings.

Remember to check out my What’s On page which I’ll be updating with more events and happenings. Here’s to a happy March!

Bo Kaap, Cape Town

Let’s explore: Bo Kaap

Bo Kaap Scenery
Recently Maggie of MagPie Photography and I took a wander around the Bo Kaap to do some exploring and find out what’s new. This historical area with its brightly coloured houses, eclectic charm and cobbled streets is probably one of the most photographed areas in our city. These are just a few highlights, enjoy our tour…

Brand new to the area is the trendy Bo-Op which you can’t miss with its primary colours and key position on the corner of Wale and Rose Street. This is home to ten of Cape Town’s fashion brands including quirky shoes from Grandt Mason Originals, beautiful clothing from Charlie H, Ballo sunglasses and more.

Deluxe Coffeeworks sits alongside the Bo-Op and on the other side you’ll find Detox juice bar.

Peek Handmade

February 22, 2017

Obtuse Jewellery
Peek is a fantastic initiative put together by the CCDI (Cape Craft & Design Institute) and proudly sponsored by the South African Department of Small Business Development. They’ve created a platform where local businesses can showcase their products for free! The only requirement is that you’re a member of the CCDI which makes sense anyway as they offer so many perks and benefits to small creative enterprises. No trade happens on the website but potential buyers are given all the relevant contact details.

Businesses can upload their own imagery and so I do feel that the look of the website is a bit disjointed. I’m hoping that in the future there will be more guidance in uploading the correct type of imagery and that the site will be more curated. I do think it’s a great opportunity and would encourage small local businesses to sign up especially if you don’t yet have a website of your own.

It’s also a great way to discover local brands. I had a browse around and noticed a number of brands that I already know but happily discovered a few fabulous new ones…
