Poetry in Motion

There’s something about ballet that always appeals, whether it’s the beautiful, supple bodies or the floaty, ethereal dresses or the absolute grace and poise. You can’t deny it, ballet is definitely one of the most beautiful and important performing arts and to lose this would be a tragedy.

Sadly the Cape Town City Ballet, which is a 75 year old institution, is facing possible closure due to lack of financial funding and support. So I’m appealing to all of my Cape Town readers to please attend their brand new production called Poetry in Motion which starts this Thursday. It’s sponsored by Poetry Lifestyle Stores and will be a unique marriage of dance, music and poetry. It promises to be a feast for both the eyes and ears.

Poetry in Motion runs from from the 6-15 May and tickets are available from Computicket. I’ve got tickets for Thursday evening and am super excited, who’s going to join me?

Awww that is soo sad that they may possibly close down, it's great you are spreading the word about it to help it keep afloat! I just love all the shoes in this post… from the circle of ballet flats from JCrew to those strappy heels! I think ballet is just beautiful and there is lots of sweet, soft inspiration to draw from it!

What exquisite images, Lana! I love the last one especially. It would indeed be a great tragedy for Cape Town to lose its ballet. Such a shame that these vital institutions do not get the funding they need, yet so much is wasted on inferior entertainment. I hope you have a wonderful time and that your ballet continues well into the future.

No they can't close!! You must go every week to make sure they don't! Love, love love ballet – used to dance when I was younger. My hubby surprised me with tickets a couple months ago, was the loveliest evening.

Oh, this post brings me back to my dancing days! (although I was more of a jazz/modern than ballet, I didn't have the flexibility for ballet – that's why they amaze me!!). So sad to hear about possible closure, I always hate hearing about that for dance companies. There's so much inspiration and loveliness in ballet!! Or really any dance for that matter 🙂

I went to see this production and it certainly was a feast for the senses. Not to give anything away, but I loved the way the poetry, music, and dance, was fused. A must-see for those in Cape Town.

Absolutely gorgeous post. Sadly it looks like both CT and Joburg companies are definitely folding 🙁
