Discover Vergelegen Estate

Discover Vergelegen Estate

Vergelegen, Somerset West

Vergelegen is a beautiful, historic estate dating back to 1685, situated in the heart of Somerset West with breathtaking views all round. This large estate is perfectly maintained with incredible gardens and an ancient Camphor Forest where you can enjoy a picnic style lunch in style – be sure to book ahead of time though.

We enjoyed a lunch at their family-friendly bistro restaurant, The Stables. Every detail was perfect – from our amazing waitress, Elizabeth, to the fantastic food, ambience and views. There’s a wonderful play area for kids and water features for them to dip their feet into. Book a table outdoors if you can!

Vergelegen also has a fine dining restaurant, The Camphors, and a beautiful wine tasting area. Make sure you have enough time when you visit so that you can explore the gardens properly. Morgenster Olive and Wine Estate and Lourensford are neighbouring estates so you could combine these for a full day out.

Oh, sometimes I wished I lived in the Cape so that I could also go to all the vineyards.

I saw a show the other day where the people rode on bicycles between the different vineyards and tasting wine. I would love to do that! Get buzzed on a bike. Ha!

    Those mountains are spectacular!

Megan, that's exactly what we said when we visited, we should be doing this by bike! Just because it's so picturesque and the area is perfect for cycling!
