Last week I was lucky enough to be treated to a thai massage at enmasse. I’ve never had a thai massage before so really didn’t know what to expect. The minute I walked into enmasse, I was enveloped by cool blue walls and received a warm welcome. I was given a set of white linen clothing to change into and was led upstairs into a large room with the same deep blue walls. The room is partitioned off into different sections, each fitted with its own mattress. No oils are used in Thai massage and the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. It really did feel a bit like a yoga session but I didn’t have to think about what I was doing. My body was massaged along pressure points and stretched into various positions. I found it relaxing at times and a bit sore at points, but it’s that good kind of sore if that makes sense, not painful! Afterwards it felt like every single muscle had been worked and stretched and I literally felt a million times lighter.
After the massage, enmasse encourages you to take your time and enjoy one of their teas before rushing back outside. I tried their cinnamon and almond infusion which was delicious. I would definitely recommend a massage at enmasse, you’ll love the gorgeous soothing interior, the music (not your usual, boring pan pipe or meditation music) and of course the massage itself. They are situated in Gardens in Cape Town and have recently opened a second branch in Illovo in Joburg. Oh and most importantly, they are open 7 days a week from 8am till 10pm!
