As I mentioned yesterday, I was invited to stay at the Oude Werf Hotel this past weekend. Of course, my partner and I took them up on their offer, sometimes it pays to be a blogger doesn’t it?! When we go away for weekends, we choose self catering cottages that are out in the countryside or in nature reserves so staying right in the centre of a vibrant town was a real change which we actually thoroughly enjoyed! Oude Werf is situated on Church Street which in my opinion is the best street in Stellenbosch. It’s full of street cafes, restaurants and unique shops with a beautiful church on one end, it really has a very charming European feel. Established in 1802, Oude Werf is South Africa’s oldest and most historic hotel and the decor is suitably traditional with a few modern touches added to the mix.
Their 1802 Restaurant was really fantastic and we enjoyed delicious buffet style breakfasts and a very tasty dinner too. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient and it felt great to be treated like a 5 star guest. Oude Werf currently has a Weekend “Market Day” Package on offer which you can read more about here. I’ve got another post lined up for later this morning to give you a feel of Stellenbosch life and perhaps give you some motivation to visit this lovely place.
