Yesterday I went along to the launch of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ out at the lovely Verbeelding DIY studio in Stellenbosch. I recently designed the website for Annie Sloan South Africa, so I was very excited to finally see this much talked about chalk paint in real life and get to test it out. What appeals most to me about this paint, is that you don’t need to prime or sand down the surface before applying the paint. Now for a lazy DIY person like me who likes a quick fix, this is the best news! Plus it’s water based, so we literally wiped the paint off our hands with wet wipes afterwards. No mess, I love it. Chalk Paint also adheres to just about any surface and although it’s specifically designed for furniture, it can be used on floors and walls too. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?!

I bought a tin of Paris Grey which I’m going to use to update two bookcases in my office and I’ll definitely do a Before & After post. You can find a list of local stockists here and find out more about future paint workshops too. Here are a few pics that I snapped at the launch and a few pics from Annie Sloan, showing some painted examples.

I love this quote by Annie Sloan on the paint tin, it just adds that personal touch. Annie created this brand over 20 years ago, her warm and vibrant personality and passion for painting are what helps to make this such a successful brand. We had a brief skype chat with Annie at the launch, so lovely to get a real sense of the woman behind the label.

Lovely post- really does look easy to update furniture!

Hi Zeanne, nice to hear from you!
There is a Pure White and also an Old White. For a glossy effect, you would need to apply their soft wax. This creates a really nice sheen.
