Last night I went along to Weylandts for the launch of the TM Collection clothing range which they will be stocking at their Green Point and Kramerville stores. As usual they pulled out all the stops and created a beautiful spring setting, perfect for the launch of this organic and natural, earthy clothing range. TM Collection is a Portuguese Fashion and Home Design company under the creative direction of Teresa Martins.
Teresa’s approach is to use ‘simple, loose and versatile blocks’ of fabric that work with the natural attributes of the textiles and free the body from restrictive form. The result: garments that float ethereally over the body in layers, using colours, patterns and textures that look as though they were inspired by Indian spice markets, African wilderness and Japanese botanicals. She treats all her cottons, linens, silks and wools as a ‘canvas’ upon which she paints with vegetable dyes or layers with pattern and embroidery embellishment.
So as you can imagine… this clothing range is certainly not going to be cheap. In fact most pieces are well over R2000.00. Their philosophy however is about longevity and timeless, investment pieces. I’m curious to see how the collection is received here in SA, it definitely has a very European feel and I imagine it will only appeal to a select clientele.
