Whenever I’m in the Constantia area, I find any excuse to visit the flower sellers on Brounger Road. They have the loveliest selection of flowers and pride themselves on selling old fashioned varieties that you don’t often see nowadays such as narcissus, stocks and dahlias.
Moses Jaftha and his two sons Charles and Malcolm, have been growing old fashioned flower varieties on the fields off Brounger Road for decades. I love the fact that their family business has survived over so many years and that they’re keeping this tradition alive. Their flowers are incredibly affordable too, so you can really treat yourself and leave with an armful of flowers like I did on Friday!
Where to find them: Brounger Road turns off Spaanschemat River Road right next to Peddlars on the Bend. Drive down the dirt road and look for the Fresh Cut Flowers sign on the right hand side next to a horse-jumping arena. Walk down the path towards some small wooden wendy houses and this is where you’ll find the flower sellers.
