Today I’m sharing a fabulous summer table setting styled by local photographers, Anthea Kirkman and Margriet Vollgraaff. The table setting is lovely and relaxed and is a fresh take on the traditional red, white and green Christmas look. I love that this setting is so easy to achieve which leaves more time for family, bubbly and good times. Aren’t the personalised wreath name tags so cute?
We both love the easy, summery style of Christmas entertaining in South Africa: Here, where doors are flung open and friends and family are around for most of the day, simplicity and understated efforts just seem to work best.
While we both love great food, we don’t want to be spending all day in the kitchen, so our favourites are really just good quality ingredients combined to bring out their best flavours. Like sun-ripened vine tomatoes in a homemade basil pesto,
watermelon and mint skewers, feta and avocado salad accompanied by a fillet marinated and grilled on the braai.
Breathing fresh life into the classic Christmas colour scheme was fun! Red accessories from Country Road, set against a canvas of garden green and offset by pops of white is a simple and modern way to interpret what could be a staid look. We cut out white doves, and strung them up for a festive, Christmas-in-the-garden feel.
Things were positioned and casually moved until they felt “just right”. With such a special day, we feel that it is important to have a sense of occasion and tradition, but without any strain.
Togetherness, happiness, gratitude and simplicity is what it’s all about.
