This past weekend two of my friends and I took a drive out to Scarborough and joined up with a lovely group of eager foragers led by Roushanna of Good Hope Nursery.
We started off by exploring the rock pools on the beach and were taught about the various seaweeds and mussels that we could collect. We spent some time gathering our edible seaweeds and Mediterranean mussels and from there we made our way across the beach to a rustic cottage. This is where we spent the rest of the morning preparing various dishes with all of our foraged sea treasures.
And of course the best part was getting to eat and enjoy our feast… Sushi balls with Sea lettuce, Crispy Nori chips, Wrack seaweed coleslaw, Soft seaweed & couscous salad, Mussels in a creamy garlic sauce and the most delicious Umami ice cream to end off.
The morning was such fun and incredibly informative thanks to Roushanna’s teaching and willingness to share her knowledge. I highly recommend you try one of her foraging courses!

That looks like a day well spent and great fun!! How amazing that we can use so much from the sea when we know what to look for 🙂

Please let me know when you are next doing a coastal foraging course as this is what I want to learn about as spend a lot of time in the rock pools along the coastline of the Eastern Cape.
