Not too long ago I discovered a real gem tucked away in the heart of Onrus which is a small seaside suburb just outside of Hermanus. I’ve driven past The Small Gallery countless times and never managed to pop in. I’m so glad I finally did because this charming spot is so worth a visit.
On walking through the front gate, one is suddenly transported into a bygone era with a lovely courtyard that has a rustic Provence-like feel. The Small Gallery is where owner, Elmarie, gets to play. It’s a little shop with a collection of vintage goods, art and antiques. Elmarie’s passion is styling and she collects and buys many pieces for projects and jobs and then sells them afterwards. Elmarie also offers a full decorating service, such as making up of curtains, blinds and soft furnishings as well as furniture restoration and paint techniques. So as you can imagine her shop is a treasure trove of unique pieces.
Elmarie is currently working on a collection for a French Market taking place in July in Franschhoek. So do look out for her furniture pieces, screens and murals painted in the old French way.
