An old apple warehouse in Elgin has been cleverly converted into a bustling market with a steampunk theme. Overlooking the railway, the theme is fitting, and you can watch steam trains rolling in and out every Saturday thanks to their partnership with the Ceres Rail Company.
The Elgin Railway Market boasts a great selection of local vendors selling mostly food, drinks and deli items. Enjoy a leisurely bite while enjoying live music and take in the beautiful space. Such attention to detail and incredible custom fittings make this market a visual feast where Art Deco meets Victorian. Only a hour’s drive from Cape Town, it makes for a great weekend outing. I loved the spaciousness and that you could easily find a spot to sit! Be sure to explore the mezzanine level and take in the views from the deck.
