Vergelegen is a beautiful, historic estate dating back to 1685, situated in the heart of Somerset West with breathtaking views all round. This large estate is perfectly maintained with incredible gardens and an ancient Camphor Forest where you can enjoy a picnic style lunch in style – be sure to book ahead of time though.
We enjoyed a lunch at their family-friendly bistro restaurant, The Stables. Every detail was perfect – from our amazing waitress, Elizabeth, to the fantastic food, ambience and views. There’s a wonderful play area for kids and water features for them to dip their feet into. I recommend booking a table outdoors if possible.
Vergelegen also has a fine dining restaurant, The Camphors, and a beautiful wine tasting area. Make sure you have enough time when you visit so that you can explore the gardens properly. Morgenster Olive and Wine Estate and Lourensford are neighbouring estates so you could combine a visit with one of these for a full day out.
