Looking for a cosy spot to unwind after work with a drink and snack in hand? Sotano, a firm favourite in Mouille Point has opened a 2nd branch on Bree Street and recently added a brand new Pintxos Bar to the mix. Yes, you can happily say goodbye to salted peanuts, crisps and boring bar snacks and choose to indulge in Mediterranean inspired deliciousness instead.
So what are Pinxtos? Pronounced ‘peen-chos’, they are small bites originating in Northern Spain, typically consumed early evenings after work. These small tasty bites of food served on bread or skewers use traditional ingredients such as fish, cheese, olives and meats. Starting at R8, these bar snacks are well priced and the best part is that they’re ready to pop right into your mouth.
All of the dishes are displayed on the bar counter so it’s incredibly simple to make your choice and see where your fancy takes you. There are two dishes that need to be ordered and prepared and are not to be missed – I tried the Wild mushroom and Egg yolk dish and it was definitely my favourite.
What to expect… Croquettes / Baguette topped with combinations such as Tuna remoulade, Cream cheese, aioli & anchovy, Prawn, boiled egg & salmon roe / Calamari cones / Octopus and marinated peppers bowl / Skewers with chorizo, anchovies and olives / Cured meats.
Combined with a relaxed and inviting setting, I can see myself visiting again soon! The Pintxos Bar is open from 4pm and if you’re in the mood for a meal afterwards, you can head upstairs to their open plan restaurant, complete with lounge, sushi bar and verandah.
