I recently got to experience Cape Town through a visitor’s eyes and stayed at the gorgeous MooiBaai in Hout Bay. MooiBaai was originally a farm and stills retains its original authentic charm and Cape Dutch architectural features. A stay at this fabulous guest house gives you a sense of being on a getaway in the countryside and is so good for the soul.
Of course the bonus is that you’re actually in the heart of Hout Bay which is a fantastic spot from which to explore Cape Town. The city centre and urban bustle is just a 30 minute drive away, as is the Constantia wine route and of course the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive.
Valérie is the visionary behind MooiBaai, who in her ‘former life’ was a banker in Belgium. The idea to start a guest house in South Africa came about after a trip to South Africa in 2015 and since buying the property in 2016, she hasn’t looked back once!
“During one of my trips to South Africa I accidentally ended up in Hout Bay, as if it was meant to be. It was love at first sight!
I took the plunge and decided to go for a real life changer. I very much want to offer my guests the same experience I first had and still have. I want you to feel right at home, in a place where you can relax in an intimate atmosphere and enjoy the spectacular surroundings.”
Valérie’s caring approach and passion are the secret ingredients that make MooiBaai flourish. Valérie manages the guest house herself and handles all the details from welcoming you at the door on arrival to baking fabulous bread for your breakfast. She even makes the jams and marmalade and the delectable muesli that will have you wanting seconds!
These personal touches are apparent throughout the guesthouse from the choices in decor to the customised travel tips offered to guests.
Valérie is optimistic about the tourism business and South Africa despite the current challenges that the global pandemic has brought on. Lockdown gave her the time and opportunity to create new offerings which are a brilliant addition to MooiBaai.
The guest house is now available for business brunches and meetings as well as intimate parties, events and weddings. Valerie has teamed up with a local foodie and event planner who will handle all of the beautiful decor and menu details.
Peaceful and relaxed, a home away from home
Simple and understated with subtle flavours of Africa
MooiBaai has a fully equipped kitchen at your disposal should you wish to prepare your own meal whilst enjoying sundowners. The communal lounge area also has a television and plenty of dvd’s to choose from for a cosy winter movie night next to the fireplace.
