This past Monday was a public holiday and so we thought we would treat ourselves to a day out. A group of us took a drive out to Langebaan where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Die Strandlooper which is an open air restaurant right on the water’s edge. They serve about 10 courses over a leisurely three to four hour period, from black mussels, fish curry and fresh fish to crayfish and lastly koeksisters for dessert. Most of this is prepared on open braais in a very relaxed setting.
There’s a lovely, festive ambiance and the Strandlooper team is friendly and engaging. The food is traditionally prepared and fairly simple so don’t expect gourmet dishes. The experience though is absolutely fantastic. It makes for a great day trip and I recommend going with a big group of friends.
A few tips: Try not to eat too much of the delicious bread hot from the oven or you won’t have space for all of the courses, bring your own drinks and cooler box, swimming gear and cash (no credit cards accepted)
