Last night I ventured into unfamiliar territory and attended an amazing launch in Langa which is Cape Town’s oldest township. The Imbadu Collective aims to showcase collaborative works and elevate design education within communities in informal settlement areas. The collaborative exhibition is running until the 25th of February and features work by local creatives such as Andile Dyalvane, Zizipho Poswa, Laduma Ngxokolo, Atang Tshikare, Trevor Stuurman, Vukile Batyi and more.
The exhibition is being held at the Guga S’Thebe Theatre which is an absolutely incredible space. The building is also being built with a cooperative approach, in phases using recycled materials. The building’s incredible design details and innovative structure actually stood out more than the exhibition for me.
I have to admit, at first I was a bit apprehensive about venturing into Langa because I had never visited before but soon realised my thoughts were unfounded. I encourage you to also step out of your comfort zone, whatever it may be. Try something new and different, the experience is always worth it!
