I’ve been a fan of Mungo’s beautiful woven textiles and homeware for many years. Their main production takes place at their shop and mill in Plettenberg Bay which is housed in an old building dating back to 1896. Luckily for us Capetonians, they have just opened a beautiful new store in Hout Street, right in the heart of the city.
Their new store is also situated in a magnificent heritage building with Oregon Pine floors and a spacious, light-filled interior. What makes their new space more unique is an antique loom that was made in the 1890’s and which they brought down from the Plett mill.
Seeing this loom in action and watching the intricate handmade weaving process instantly makes one appreciate the product and process. There is no mass producing here which makes Mungo even more desirable.
Our aim is to bridge the gap between the maker and the market, and to introduce customers to a part of our process.
Be sure to pop and visit them at 78 Hout Street, Cape Town | 021 201 2374
