Just outside Swellendam, along the picturesque R60 road, you’ll find Jan Harmsgat Country House nestled amongst Pecan trees with spectacular views of the Langeberg mountains. Not too long ago, I got to experience their hospitality thanks to a media trip put together by Hot Oven Marketing.
This Cape Dutch homestead has that authentic countryside charm combined with 5 star service and all the luxuries you could need. Small details make all the difference, like the beautifully packaged Rain bath goodies and discovering a toasty hot water bottle in my bed after our dinner.

Jan Harmsgat is in fact a working farm producing pecan nuts, pomegranates and grapes for their JHG wines. In the late afternoon we were taken on a drive in their Land Rover up to a scenic point on the farm to enjoy the 360 degree views. This was definitely a wine tasting to remember!

In the evening we sat around one of their bonfires which was a lovely experience, enjoying the crisp winter chill and starry sky which we don’t get to see in the city. Our dinner was outstanding and so I would absolutely recommend a meal here even if you’re passing through the area and not staying as a guest. The Pecan Pie is of course their specialty! Thanks to Jan Harmsgat for a wonderful stay!
