I’ve rounded up four fabulous designs that showcase the beauty of wood and its versatility.
This striking ‘treehouse inspired’ abode in the heart of leafy Constantia certainly deserves a mention. I love how the exterior blends so effortlessly with its natural surroundings and yet the interior has a decidedly contemporary high-end feel. Malan Vorster are the architects behind this beautiful design and Henry Fagan & Partners were responsible for the structural engineering. Do hop over to Dwell to view more of this unique wooden home. My only criticism… there don’t seem to be any curtains? I don’t know about you but I’m not a fan of getting woken up at the crack of dawn in summer.
Weylandts has just recently launched their Himba range which includes oak furniture with printed patterns. This striking sideboard caught my eye…
“This unique piece is manufactured from Soft Maple & natural light cork. Designed with the aim of leaving as little impact on the earth as possible & the assessment for its environmental impact. To be launched at 100% Design South Africa in August.”
The intricate cut-out details appeal to me as well as the unique design. I’m looking forward to seeing the end result.
Lastly there’s a new wood collection from Bisazza who are better known for their ceramic mosaic tiles. They have teamed up with Dutch designer Edward van Vliet to create a series of contemporary parquet flooring. The range features vibrant colours and hexagonal oak segments with laser engraved patterns.
