If you’re looking for a rustic getaway in nature then be sure to add Tierhoek Cottages to your arsenal. Nestled at the foot of the Langeberg mountains near Robertson and less then 2 hours from Cape Town, this is a really magical spot.
There are five self-catering cottages/houses and each one has its own swimming pool which is an absolute must in summer as the Robertson area is known to get very hot. Each cottage has a different feel and is totally private from the others. We stayed at Pepper Tree which is a small traditional farm cottage with a huge Pepper Tree for shade. The highlight was the stoep and small plunge pool with its incredible views of the valley. We spent most of the time just sitting out on the stoep, watching the birds in the fig tree and relaxing. There’s no TV, cell reception or wifi so expect to really disconnect.
There are a number of walks to do on the farm and if you have kids they can feed the pigs or visit the donkeys and sheep. Next time round I’d like to stay in Quince Cottage which is right up at the top and looks just as lovely.
Top tip: Tierhoek is incredibly popular so you’ll need to book well in advance!
