If you’re looking for a break and want to try something different, why not consider a quick urban escape in your own city? You can happily forget about a long drive and sitting in the Friday afternoon traffic madness. Last week I did just that and enjoyed a two night stay in the heart of Sea Point at the retro-themed Mojo Hotel.
The Mojo Hotel sits above the Mojo Market and lies directly in line with the Sea Point swimming pool. Their location is absolutely brilliant for exploring the area and accessibility. Scroll down to see my list of recommended things to do in the area!
The Mojo Hotel is a little different from your regular hotel and offers a combination of spacious sea facing suites together with more basic suites and dorm style rooms for back packers. We stayed in their Deluxe Studio with Sea View which was lovely and light with a king-size bed and two single beds on a mezzanine level. We had our own kitchenette which was fantastic – I love the idea of being independent and having the ability to whip up a meal. Hearing the sounds of the ocean was just the cherry on the top.
The Mojo is such a fun and vibey hotel. You may hear the sounds of the band performing live downstairs so if you’re looking for an ultra quiet getaway, it’s not ideal. However you won’t have far to go for entertainment and fabulous food! The Mojo Market is open seven days a week and features an eclectic mix of retail stalls and food vendors with a bar of course. It’s become quite the hub in the area and draws in a mix of young and old, tourists and locals alike.
Below is the view from our studio balcony with the Sea Point swimming pool peaking through the trees. I went for such an amazing 10km walk and walked the promenade and Green Point Park flat – definitely a highlight of the stay for me.
The hotel has plenty of quirky touches and vibrant murals to add flavour and colour. I didn’t have time to borrow one of their bicycles, next time though!
11 Things to do in the area:
Sea Point swimming Pool – you can’t beat the ocean views whilst doing lengths
Sea Point promenade – walk, run or hire a bicycle and get moving
OZCF Market on Saturday mornings – get there early to beat the rush and enjoy the buzz
CAFDA bookshop – this second hand book shop has been going for years and I love popping in. It’s one minute away from the Mojo Hotel on the Main Road.
Green Point Park – great for the whole family, don’t miss the rosemary labyrinth!
Green Point Park Run – every Saturday morning
The Creamery Cafe – for the best ice cream
Mash boutique – boho jewellery, clothing and homeware
Winchester Mansions – for sundowners
La Perla – for cocktails out on their terrace
Sundoo – for delicious South Indian street food & tapas
