Societi Bistro is a great choice all year round. Set in a beautiful Georgian house, it has a lovely outdoor section which is fantastic for summer days and balmy evenings and when it comes to winter, the interior is super cosy with a roaring fireplace. They’ve recently launched their Winter menu and I was lucky enough to enjoy an intimate lunch with a few bloggers where we got to sample all of their new dishes and desserts. Such a treat!
Let’s start with their wine list which is impressive and the best part is that everything is served by the glass and from as little as R18. Plus you can also ask for tastings if you’re unsure of which bottle of wine to choose. If you’re a chardonnay drinker, be sure to try Hartenberg’s Eleanor chardonnay – it is absolutely divine.
The menu is hearty and down to earth with delicious flavors and a mix of traditional fare and more creative dishes such as the vetkoek snails and bone marrow on charred baguette. The mains are very meat orientated with only one veggie option, so you could always combine a few veggie starters if you’re wanting more variation. The Butter Chicken served with naan bread and basmati rice was the winner for sure – so creamy and good!
All four desserts were out of this world and each bite was better than the last, which makes choosing a favourite almost impossible. If you have a sweet tooth, make sure you leave room for dessert. Apart from the fantastic flavours and warm ambiance, Societi Bistro’s portion sizes are generous and the dishes are well priced so this is definitely a restaurant to add to your vocabulary.
