Yesterday I spent the morning at The Styling Shed in Stellenbosch learning how to decorate cakes with the talented Beate from The Birdcage. I love making cakes and cupcakes for my friends and family on their birthdays but my decorating skills have always let me down. Getting that ‘professional’ look is always something I’ve wanted to know how to do so when I spotted this workshop, I signed up straight away.
Beate demonstrated four different cake styles and gave us so many tips and insider secrets. Then it was time for us to decorate a vanilla and chocolate cake each. There were just six of us in the class so we got plenty of personal attention and help with our decorating. It was such a fun morning and I learnt so much, so keep an eye out for the next one.
Essential tools are a rotating cake stand, a scraper and a bent spatula… without these your cakes are always going to look homemade!
