A bare floor, even one made of luxurious oak, marble tiles or trending terrazzo, calls for a rug! Earlier this month I took a peak into the Fibre Designs studio in De Waterkant and interior designer, Leanne Fairweather showed me around.
The studio was opened in 2009 by owner Pierre Antoine who is a great believer in the craftsmanship and quality of his bespoke products and they really do have an incredible selection of rugs. You can conveniently view these online here however I’d really suggest going into their showroom to see, touch and feel their beauty.
Fibre Designs offers a wide variety of innovative hand-woven rugs from luxurious tactile neutrals and silky Mohair rugs to flat weaves, hand crocheted grass rugs and the most swoonworthy Moroccan Berber rugs.
“A rug is the room’s unsung hero, providing color and comfort while acting as the focal point for all the different elements in the design scheme.” – Fibre Designs
They have two locally made rug collections. The Berber Collection’s rugs are soft under foot and are 100% hand woven Karoo wool while The Verandah Collection is a stylish yet sturdy outdoor collection. The Verandah Collection consists of rugs, poufs, ottomans, banquettes and pool loungers which are hand crocheted by women from their empowerment project in the Limpopo Province. I love the idea of being able to leave a rug or lounger outdoors and not have to fuss about bringing it in every time the weather turns!
In addition they also offer a rug restoration service and a bespoke manufacturing facility for when you need something unique. There are hundreds of colours to work with or they can match any colour you provide.
Below are a few photographs showing some of Fibre Designs’ gorgeous rugs in situ which allows you to see their scale as well as the variety of different looks they can work with.
