Getting away for a weekend and heading slightly off the beaten track to a quiet cottage makes me incredibly happy. And if you can add hiking, swimming and outdoor showers to the mix, that’s even better. Luckily there’s no shortage of fabulous getaways in the Western Cape and I’ve rounded up some favourites. All of these cottages and cabins are set in beautiful surroundings, either on farms or nature reserves which allows for disconnecting from the urban craziness and a chance to enjoy Mother Nature.

You’ll find this rustic getaway on the Van der Stel Pass near Bot River, just an hour from Cape Town.
