We discovered a gorgeous self-catering gem in the heart of Montagu which gives you the illusion you are deep in the countryside. Stone Cottage is one of three charming cottages on Olive Stone Farm which is conveniently situated just off the town’s main road.
The cottage has a small footprint and is actually tucked in between three rows of working olive trees with views of the dramatic mountain range all round. I loved the look and feel and how old and new fittings have been cleverly combined. With sash windows and internal shutters as cupboard doors and room dividers, there are so many design details which we lapped up. What’s more is that all of the cottages are newly built by owners, Andrew and Elaine, and yet they all have that distinct character of an authentic Karoo farm cottage.
Fresh farm eggs, rusks and milk on arrival plus we were encouraged to help ourselves to any of the vegetables and herbs in the veggie garden. Oh what bliss! We happily plucked away and made a delicious salad for dinner, using only ingredients from the garden.
An outdoor shower and a plunge pool for hot summer days, we were in heaven! Enjoy the mini-tour…
