Embrace slow living at Kalmoesfontein farm

Embrace slow living at Kalmoesfontein farm

Winemaker's Cottage

About an hour’s drive from Cape Town, between Malmesbury and Wellington, lies the beautiful Kalmoesfontein farm. Owned by the enterprising and creative Badenhorst family, this is where AA Badenhorst Family Wines are produced along with Swaan Cape tonic water, Caperitif (a fortified wine infused with fynbos and citrus) and The Fourth Rabbit (100% Agave mezcal).

The farm is a perfect setting for intimate weddings and interesting events. And to add to that, they have two self-catering cottages sleeping four and a couple’s hideaway in an original silo. I recently soaked up a three night stay at their Winemakers cottage which was such a treat. The cottage exudes a stylish simplicity and has all the essentials for a luxurious farm getaway. Freshly made bread, farm eggs, homemade rusks and a bottle of wine are just a few of the special, welcoming touches. Sumptuous bedding and decadent pillows will ensure the best night’s sleep – this is no exaggeration, you’ll have to visit so that you can experience this for yourself!

The views from the front stoep are magical and you have your own dam for summer days. Kids are welcome too and they’ll enjoy the all the various farm animals and the innovative play area with zip-line, swings and cricket net. We enjoyed being outdoors and embracing a slower pace that a farm lifestyle can offer.
